Angina Pectoris
Explanation
Angina Pectoris is a heart-based syndrome occurs during when the muscular cells of the heart fails to generate enough level of blood, which is required to carry out the all-important pumping function in the heart. This is a syndrome rather than a disease and its symptoms like chest pain or discomfort is felt near the chest. Another name of this heart related syndrome is the stable angina. Coronary blood flow deficiency is likely to cause the syndrome. Symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, tightness of chest and abdomen, chest pain, sweating and palpitation are few of symptoms.
Reasons/Causes
Heart (coronary atherosclerosis) requires sufficient and controlled flow of blood, but as for this syndrome, thickening of arteries that provide sufficient nutrients, oxygen, and blood forms. Scientifically, fat and plaque deposits shrink the arteries and reduce the flow of blood in the heart.
Generally, symptoms appear regularly for the affected patients, when their heart requires more flow of blood, particularly after any physical activity. Since the passage of arteries is narrowed, the flow of blood as compared to normal persons is low. Hence, the heart receives relatively lesser oxygen than the usual, and starts paining.
Some of the causes of angina pectoris are stressful lifestyle, hereditary family with ischemic disease, excessive smoking, higher content of fat and cholesterol, diabetes.
Signs/Symptoms
Stable Angina syndrome has some of its typical symptoms as follows:
Angina Pectoris as per Ayurvedic Concept
As per the philosophy of Ayurveda, it is the KaphaDosha, which can be held as responsible for the cause of the Angina Pectoris. In Sanskrit, Kapha stands for something that can be dense, wet, cold, stable, heavy, firm, clear, and sticky in nature. The work of Kapha is described as the regulator of all the possible structures and lubricating purpose. Kapha is responsible for the growth of seven tissues, bones, reproductive, muscles, and blood, and fluid, nutritive, marrows tissues respectively. Overall, in a good state, Kapha is a necessary for giving nourishment to these mentioned tissues by different micro channels.
As like any other doshas, Kaphadosha, if it gets affected or intoxicated, this produces ama (toxins). These toxins are dense, sticky and heavy, hence blocks the passage of weak channels. In this syndrome, toxins gather in the heart channels or hridayvahi channels and thus blockage occurs. Since the channels are blocked, one more dosha, or the Vata (Air) Dosha accumulates. Vata is described as to be dry and cool wind in Sanskrit. Thus, pain caused, is due to VataDoshas.
Ayurvedic medicines are recommended to rebalance the digestive systems and remove the dangerous toxins. Purifying the heart along with restoring body energies is also focused. Therapies to avoid stress and anxiety are advised, healthy diet and lifestyle to be followed. Mental therapies should be expressed in case of heart-based disorders.
Lifestyle Guide & Recommended Diet
Diet and lifestyle should be strictly monitored and maintained as by the patient suffering from the disease. This is mainly because, to keep the body weight intact and balanced to avert possible risk factors due to gain of extra weights. As per the common diet restriction, patients are advised to take fat free foods as they contribute 25-30 % of calories. Have fat free, carbohydrate free foods, as they might be risky. Avoid salt and caffeine products.
In Stable Angima, bed rest is not of complete necessity, although medical attention is a must when the attacks happen. Little risk free exercise is recommended. Normal walking on a flat surface and meditation for restoring mental stress and shavasana are recommended in a slow step process.
Homemade Therapies
*Garlic is an agent of gastritis; use them after recommendation from experts.
