Anorexia (Loss of Appetite or Aruchi)
Explanation
Anorexia is a disorder in which a sufferer lacks the feel and need of appetite. In Ayurvedic language, this is known as asaruchi. The causes can be because of unusual and poor way of leading lifestyle or even sometimes for wrong eating habits as well. Some cases where a person doesn’t eat a food because of its taste and desire to swallow vanquishes. Indigestion or some other psychological factors also contribute to this disorder.
Note: Anorexia is a disease caused due to some indigestive or psychological factors. It should not be confused with anorexia nervosa which is a psychological and physiological disorder in women who tend to not to eat on the fear of being an obese quite sooner. In case of anorexia nervosa, these are quite threatening and result in severe outcomes even life threatening weight loss. On the other hand, anorexia is a simple case of loss of appetite and it’s temporary.
Reasons/Causes
As per the science of Ayurveda, the three doshas, namely vata, pitta, kapha are combined responsible for the disease. Other psychological factors namely stress, fear and anger also leads to the disease and indigestion. Thus, toxins or ama is hence formed as a result of this consequence. Ama, thus blocks the gastro cycle of the body and affects the sense of taste.
Other significant factors like eating too much of snacks at an odd time and having oily foods, junk foods at irregular intervals too contribute

As per the ayurvedic concept, the combination of all the three doshas is solely responsible for the disease. One of the doshas, Kapha (water) is a sticky, cold, heavy, slow, wet, clear, and dense in nature and the affection of the kapha, leads to the kaphadoshas that leads to the situation of loss of appetite or hunger.
Other psychological and stressful factors like greed, anger, fear are some of the key factors causing the disease. - Anorexia due to VataDoshas: The feel of tastelessness, pain near the heart, astringent taste, sensitivity etc are few problems.
- Anorexia due to Pitta Doshas: Excessive thirst, heartburns, foul smell or pungent odor from the mouths of the sufferer, pungent taste felt in the mouth.
- Anorexia due to KaphaDoshas: Excessive salivation, thirst, sticky mouth, heaviness of the tongue, etc can be felt.

- Consume a mixture containing 1/4th teaspoon of limejuice, a small pinch containing rock salt along with 1/4th teaspoon containing ginger juice. Consume it twice a day for duration of about 15 minutes twice a day.
- Tongue Cleaning is highly recommended after brushing. This will help to activate and make the taste buds feel fresh and clean.
- Prepare a powder containing long pepper, celery seeds, cumin seeds, rock salt, dried ginger root and long pepper in exact quantity, and consume it twice a day with a half spoon dosage with the first meal bite.
- Drink water when felt thirsty.
