Bronchial Asthma
Explanation
Bronchial Asthma or known as TamakSwasana in Ayurvedic language is a asthmatic chronic disease that is distinguished by a series of coughing, breathing problems, dyspnoea, wheezing etc. This is a state where any psychological stress only damages the conditions.
Reasons/Causes
Affected Kapha (water) gets stored and accumulated inside the channel leading to the shrinking and obstruction of air passage. As the blockade reduces the flow of air inside the lungs, breathing problems, shortness of breath may also affect as per the consequence. The excessive intake of Kapha and Vata damages the internal tissues of the lungs, food channels, and ofcourse leading to the root of many diseases. Other factors causing bronchial asthma include the poor and uncomfortable living conditions, consuming indigestible foods, and formation of mucus or ama.
Signs/Symptoms
The general symptoms like the paroxysmal of breathlessness and wheezing along with stiffening of chest are some of the known general symptoms of the disease. Prolonged coughing causes the person to lose consciousness. However, noise of breathing becomes very high and the patient may feel exhausted during when he exhales. Due to the inflammation of throat, difficulty to speak and converse and due to this, sweating occurs in the forehead, as the mouth again remains dry. Since the difficulty of breathing is present, the person feels a lot more comfortable sitting up than lying down.
Bronchial Asthma as per Ayurvedic Concept
Ayurvedic philosophy explains, bronchial asthma is caused due to the disorder present in digestive system. Herbal medical treatment is recommended for the clearing and cleansing of toxins from the body. The liquefaction of toxins present due to kapha in the respiratory channels will allow a better and a clean flow of vata. Plus, medications for the improvement of immunity are given to the patient for the regaining energy and physiological strength to fight of autoimmunity cases since due to asthma; the patient is likely to become weak.

Ayurveda advices to follow clean lifestyle measures like to avoid smoking of tobacco, exposure to dust and pollen dusts. Drinking herbal tea or drinking warm water with a spoon of honey is also recommended. Eat wholesome food, but remember to not to overload while eating. Heavy foods like rice, pickles, cold foods, dairy products should be avoided as much as possible.

- Add 1/4th teaspoon of turmeric powder with ½ teaspoon of freshly grated ginger in a glass containing milk and boil it.
- Do a chest massage by adding warm sesame oil, as it will decongest the chest containing phlegm particularly after inhaling steam therapy.
- Consume ginger tea with 2-3 cloves of garlic in it.
