Cervical Spondylosis
Explanation
The most dangerous form of Arthritis, when there is shooting pain radiating across the cervical vertebrae from neck to the upper limbs is Cervical Spondylosis. One also faces severe vertigo while bending forwards and sometimes experience numb feelings at times. The Ayurvedic name for cervical spondylosis is Grivasandhigatvata. The spondylosis is caused more certainly by incorrect sitting or sleeping posture causing the cervical vertebrae to deteriorate causing spasms to rise and increase pain.
Reasons/Causes
An exerted Vata Dosha(Ayurvedic name for Air) causes the tissues and central vertebrae to become deteriorated over time. The Vata is aggravated when one has excess of cool, sour foods on empty stomach or when one does not have food in regular intervals or when one works late at night and does not care for a healthy life pattern causing physical and mental stress.
Signs/Symptoms
The problem of Cervical Spondylosis is caused when one experiences shooting pain that stretches from the neck slowly down the back to the upper limb region. One can have a sensation of numbness gripping in the shoulders, neck and hands combined with extreme joint pain. Improper digestion, gastric problems, or insomnia can also be called as symptoms of Cervical Spondylosis.

- It is recommended to consume easy to digest foods that include fresh vegetables, soups, milk, fruits and nuts, like almonds
- It is further recommended to reduce the consumption of rice or flour or other gastric causing foods so that digestion happens smoothly
- Stay away from all kinds of stress, be it mental or physical
- Sleep well at night
- Heat sesame oil and use it for a refreshing body massage
- Practice Dhanurasan or Ujjai Pranayam for relief from the spasm

- In the morning on empty stomach take two or three garlic buds for relief
- Take equal quantities of dried ginger roots, cumin and celery seeds and powder them. This powder needs to be had with a teaspoon of water and rock salt for complete treatment from the pains.
