Chronic Laryngitis
In patients suffering from laryngitis, the laryngeal mucous membranes get swollen or inflamed, causing congestion and/or a coating of mucus. When a patient suffers repeat attacks of acute laryngitis, it causes chronic laryngitis. Other factors that can also cause laryngitis are, excessive talking or shouting, heavy smoking, nasal sinus and mouth breathing. Common symptoms include hoarseness in voice or complete inability to talk at all, spasmodic coughing, and persistent irritation in the throat.
In Ayurveda, a series of medicinal herbs are administered to the patient, which clean the blood and lymph. For increased effectiveness, sometimes antibiotics or demulcent herbs are also prescribed.
