Chronic Rhinitis
If your erudite friend, after a sneeze and snort tells you that he has Chronic Rhinitis, don't run for your life; what he has is common cold, though a bit complexified!
Symptoms
When there is inflammation of the membrane and irritation inside your nostrils, when you sneeze once too many, when your nose is blocked or watery discharge makes you scramble for a kerchief, know that you have Chronic Rhinitis. Chronic Rhinitis is different from allergic Rhinitis in that the latter is caused by allergens whereas Chronic Rhinitis may be caused by environmental irritants like smoke or dust, changes in the weather, certain medications, food or the flu/common cold virus.
In addition, it might be itching inside your throat; the hot Columbian coffee served before you would be as bland as a cup of boiled water. To make matters worse, you would be having the beginning of a head ache; eyes red and watery for no reason. Bad body odor also could be indicative of Chronic Rhinitis.
Chronic Rhinitis or DuhtaPratishya – take your pick
The most usual cause of this Rhinitis is the common cold. Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine in India calls Chronic Rhinitis, DuhtaPratishya. According to ayurveda, the cause of all illnesses can be traced back to an imbalance among the three doshas or humors called Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Pitta symbolizes heat whereas Kapha stands for cold mucus-like substances. Aggravated kapha and pitta would produce some toxins in the form of heated mucus. When these toxins reach the respiratory system, which is comparatively the weak part in our body, it leads to Chronic Rhinitis.
Cure for Cold – oops - Chronic Rhinitis!
The philosophy of ayurveda is not to suppress the illness or altered condition of the body. Instead, ayurveda works at restoring the balance of the three doshas. This is achieved through changes in diet. To contain pitta and kaphadoshas, ayurveda recommends the following dietary regulations:
Do's and Don'ts
