Dysphagia
Dysphagia or difficulty in swallowing is usually caused by dysfunctioning of the oesophagus, which is the passage between mouth and stomach. Inflammatory diseases such as tonsillitis, stomatitis or laryngitis may cause dysphagia. Neuromuscular disorders such as myasthenia gravis or compression on the oesophagus due to goitre can also cause this dysfunctioning. In other cases, esophagitis and stricture can also cause ulceration and obstruction.
From Ayurvedic point of view, dysphagia is a condition that occurs due to obstruction in minute channels of the body. When metabolism is low, food is not digested properly, which results into accumulation of toxins (ama). These toxins accumulate within various body channels causing blockages and impaired functioning.
Treatment of dysphagia consists primarily of cleansing the toxins with help of purifying herbs, boosting digestion with herbal treatment, and restoring strength and immunity with Ayurvedic tonics.
