Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
Explanation
The Infection that is caused by bacterial infection in the urinary tract is called UTI. The beginning of the infection is at the urethra and then it slowly spreads across to the urinary bladder and other parts of the urinary tract. One can experience an inflammation and one can also feel an urge to urinate quite frequently. Since the urethra is small in size and positioned quite near the anus (the main point of any infection) the condition is more prevalent in women. UTI or Urinary Tract Infection can also be caused by presence of kidney stones, improper bowel movements, less of fluid intake, and pregnancy too.
Reasons/Causes
There are several causes for the urinary infection to take place and of them, consumption of oil rich, heavy foods, spicy foods, tea, coffee and alcohol instigate the Pitta (fire) in the body causing UTI. Long time exposure to sunlight and physical hardships can further increase the problem.
Signs/Symptoms
The main irritation intensifieswhile urinating with acute sensation near the urethra. Presence of blood or pus in the urine combined with high fever, frequent urges to attend to the nature’s call even if the bladder is just emptied, and more frequency at night times are few symptoms of UTI.
Urinary Tract Infection as per Ayurvedic Concept
PittajMutrakrichhra, as the Urinary Tract Infection is called in the Ayurvedic terminology, is worsened by the affected Pitta Dosha. As we know, Pitta means fire in the body that is provoked by the irregular eating habits and drinking habits. Pitta therefore, creates ama to be accumulated near the mutravahistrotas (urinary channels), so much so that the immunity of the body may fall, causing bacteria to grow, leading the path to the formation of UTI. Though many modern medicines may fight off the bacteria, they are not successful in building up the immunity, reducing, or cleansing the body off the toxic accumulation. This leaves the door open for the disease to recur in many cases. Through Ayurveda, one can experience a long term relief from the infection, since the Pitta would be cooled, the body would be cleansed internally and finally the immunity system would be rebuilt causing infections to stay out.
