Angiopasty India
Definition of Coronary Angioplasty
In Angioplasty surgery, a balloon is used to open the blocked and narrow blood vessels inside the heart. Angioplasty has been divided into many parts such as balloon angioplasty, Cardiac angioplasty, Percutaneous Tran luminal; Coronary Angioplasty, and Coronary artery angioplasty. The process of identifying the need of Coronary angioplasty
There are some indications through which you can find out that someone requires Coronary angioplasty:
The reason for undergoing Angioplasty surgery
Fat and cholesterol accumulate in the internal part of arteries and form deposits called plaque. This condition is called atherosclerosis. Arteries supplying blood to the heart itself (called the coronary arteries) become narrowed or blocked by the accumulation of fat and cholesterol.
The procedure followed in Angioplasty
In Angioplasty surgery at first the patient is laid on a padded table. After that local pain killer is given and then catheters are inserted in the artery. After the surgery has been completed the patient is returned back to awareness. However, does not feel any pain due to effect of pain killer medicine.
Blockages in the heart are identified by using X-rays and Dye method as these techniques create a prefect visualization of diseased arteries. After that, a balloon catheter is inserted in or near the blockage area and then inflated. This process makes the blocked and narrowed arteries widen thus restoring the heart and making its function normal.
In many cases, blood dissolving medicines can be given to avoid the formation of blood clot. In all the cases, a device naming stent is also placed at the site of blockages in order to keep the artery open.
Conclusions after the surgery
The procedure Angioplasty really improves blood flow through the coronary arteries and may eliminate the requirement of coronary artery bypass surgery as well.
The result is relief from chest pain and there is an increase in the ability to exercise. In 2 out of 3 cases, the procedure is considered successful with complete elimination of the narrowing or blockage.
This procedure treats the condition, but does not cure the cause, and recurrent narrowing can be expected to a quarter of cases over a 6-month period. However, this recurrent narrowing may or may not be required to repeat it.
Patients should diet, exercise, abstain from smoking, and reduce stress in order to lower the chances of recurrence. The physician may prescribe a medication or drugs, to help lower the patient's cholesterol.
If the arteries are not sufficiently widened by angioplasty or the blockages are too severe to be treated by angioplasty, heart surgery (CABG surgery) may be recommended.
The longevity of the recovery period
The average hospital release the patient in less than 2 days, and often, an overnight stay in the hospital is not required at all. Patients are generally able to walk within 6 hours after the procedure. Complete recovery takes a week or less than a week.
